Flocked LJ

My journal is friends only. If you really do want me to friend you, then please comment here. I'm sorry, I won't friend empty journals, journals that have mainly memes in them, non-current journals, or journals that are really not HP-oriented. Do NOT ask me to friend you if you are not a legal adult in your jurisdiction. That may mean 18 or 21 in your country. If your age is not listed in your user info, please leave a statement letting me know that you're legal in your comment. Please do not friend me if you are not an adult in your jurisdiction.

If you are here because of my fanfiction, it is all posted publically, and can be found in my memories.

Thanks for being understanding!

Fic rec: To Keep Calendars in the Absence of Time

I? Am the luckiest Toy around. I've been gifted with an absolutely fabulous fic for [info]merry_smutmas this year.

To Keep Calendars in the Absence of Time is one of the very best Snupins I've ever read and that it was written for me makes me squee with delight.

I don't want to spoil it for you, but suffice it to say that this is a magnificent character study of Snape. It's a canon-compliant, slow-building exploration, a detailed, heart-catching examination that brings with it some of the hottest Lupin and Snape around within a perfectly realised and enthralling world.

Spoilers for DH if you're one of the two people who haven't read it yet!

Go! Go and read! If you're going to be offline over Christmas, treat yourself and print this out. It's magnificent and you will not regret it one bit.

Title: To Keep Calendars in the Absence of Time
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Snape/Lupin
Summary: Severus finds that there can be many reasons to keep track of the days, even in a place where time has no meaning.

Subject: Important notice re After Class

After Class, the Snape/Harry Yahoo mailing list, has been deleted.

A new group has been made by Magic_Helmut (Happy Birthday, Rai!), Nimori and Snapetoy. The new group is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stag_and_doe/ and has the same rules and mods as After Class. Due to a drive failure, we do not have a copy of the files from After Class.

We have therefore started a new database for Stag and Doe, in addition to the Fic Search database, and we ask members to add their favourite fics to help us rebuild the links.

We will continue to cross-post the editions of the SS/HP Prophet to Stag and Doe.

Please do not make any comments to this post regarding the name of the new group.

If you were a member of After Class, please join Stag and Doe.

Ficlet: Scab (R - Snape/Harry unrequited)

Author: Snapetoy
Title: Scab
Pairing: SS/HP but only in Snape's dirty little fantasies
Summary: Sometimes life is a circle and the act of living a pattern of unbreakable habits.
Note: Unbetaed tinyfic for [info]regan_v, after I was bitten by her desire for unrequited love. Angst all the way!

---

It was like a scab, really, and Snape would pick and pick at it, scratching at the edge of the partly-healed wound until it was red-raw and bleeding again. )

A note to my GJ flist

Many of you I know from the Snape/Harry corner of fandom, and I wanted to let you know that I'm cross-posting the [info]sshp_prophet to GJ, as well as LJ and the After Class mailing list. I know some of you have moved permanently (I'm swinging but have noticed that I'm already posting less to LJ) so I wanted to let you know that the Prophet is there for you. We don't only cover items on LJ, so do send links to us at sshp.prophet @ gmail.com please!

Semagic and posting to multiple journals

Whee! I have spent a little bit of time tonight trawling through the Semagic comments and have found out how to post to multiple journals on different servers. I love Semagic. )

LJ, GJ, IJ, JF and the beauty of Firefox

I seem to have set up shop everywhere!

Greatest Journal
Lots of us are already set up there due to previous LJ blackouts, including the fandom newsletters. There's a couple of cool features that we don't have on LJ; you can see who's on the site when you are, there's a hit counter built into the posting system, you can stop people from friending you. On the other hand, there's not much choice of styles and your icons disappear if your journal is inactive for a while. And it won't let me update the icons atm, either! It's a relatively recent build of LJ, so there's tags, but you can't do that thing that LJ does where you can get the comments on someone else's post. That's something I find really useful for fics posted in fests, where the mod can post my fic, but I can track the post and get the comments. ♥ I'm shallow, but you all knew that!

Insane Journal
This seems like a happy place. The owner is actively welcoming new users from LJ, and seems to be using one of the latest LJ builds, so there's tags, tracking, search to find your friends. Also, permanent accounts are only US$30.00, and the ads disappear. However, it's also a downside that permanent accounts are only $30.00 - no ongoing revenue stream to buy servers, bandwidth and tech stuff to keep it running smoothly. I've asked Squeaky about this and will let you know his answer. ETA: Squeaky is happy with the price and says he's happy with the account setup, so I've bought myself a permanent account. :)

Journal Fen
For fen, by fen. That should be enough in and of itself to take us there, but there's a few things working against it. You can't create a free account, and you can't search the users database to find your friends. The LJ build they're using seems old, so there aren't those nifty features that we like about being here on LJ. And the biggy: you have to be 18 and over to use the site. I know that's an issue for a lot of people. The servers that host JF also host Slashcity, and a lot of us have webspace there. For all the comments you see about the robustness of the servers, I've only had my website go down a couple of times, and it's always been up again very quickly, and Robin is great with tech support.

I'm starting to believe also that I can follow multiple flists. The reason for this? Tabbed browsing. Thank you, Firefox! I normally have about 25 tabs open at any given time, so I've set mine up now to open the first few tabs for flists on LJ, GJ, IJ and JF automatically. Ultimately, I think, that need will disappear as we settle down to wherever we end up, because I'm a sheep. I'm going where the rest of you go and, after all, it's my flist that matters, isn't it? ;) I'm sure that's the case for each of us! I don't have any loyalty to LJ, so a lot of what's holding me here is inertia and the power of memory. My online history is here in all the rambling posts and comments. I've worked out a system to duplicate those posts I want to save, and will post them to wherever we end up.

So, if you're starting journals on other services, let me know, or friend me and I'll friend you back. Don't we live in interesting times?

Technical assistance

My kingdom for a coder!

In an ideal world, someone would pop up right about now with a nifty program that'd let us export our LJs to the clones at JF and GJ. Does anyone know of such a program?

I have found another way, but it's pretty damned painstaking. Mind you, I think I'm going to do it over a couple of months and see how that works.

This way relies on using an LJ client. I use Semagic.

First, get your entries from LJ:
Log into LJ with Semagic, go into the history (Journal/View History), use the calendar to select an entry, and click Edit. That'll open up the old entry in the clipboard, with all your original information. Save the file, and then cancel the edit. It's worth while doing a stack of entries at once (I'm saving the files in date form eg. 20051022, so I can see them easily) as you need to log in and out of the servers.

Then, to post the entries to GJ/JF:
Edit the server at the Semagic log in screen to log into GJ, go to File/Open to open the files one at a time, and then post them. The entry will be posted with all the original information, including the time/date and settings.

The worse thing is the loss of comments, but I think I'm going to do that as a copy/paste into a single comment for each post, because I do treasure them.

I don't have a lot of confidence that something like this isn't going to happen again, and I think what will mainly keep us here is our history. We put a lot of ourselves into our LJs and the relationships we build here, and we don't want to lose that. If there's a coder who'd write the program to let us export/import, I think a lot of us would go, because we'd be able to go together. Lemmings! :D

Snarry Games Fic: Carnal Knowledge (SS/HP NC-17)

I'm home from work exhausted and trying to work out if it's worthwhile cooking dinner or whether I should just head for bed. One nice thing: my [info]snarry_games fic has been posted! [info]djin7, [info]aliciamasters and [info]reddwarfer have been wonderfully supportive, and I hope to start reading all the fabulous fics this weekend. Just as well that I can't vote, as I'm sure I'll be nowhere near caught up by the time the votes are counted! Six more weeks and hopefully we'll have the case load back under control before I head out for seven glorious weeks of freedom. I think bed and a fic to take with me is the best option. Night! /ramble

Author: Snapetoy
Title: Carnal Knowledge
Prompt: "Casualty of War"
Team: Postwar
Genre: romance/angst (not so much with the angst; I think I dudded out on that genre!)
Pairing: Snape/Harry
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Look not for plot here, gentle reader.
Note: This is an alternative fic, written after work and my life went completely insane. I'll post the original fic eventually, with credit to the Snarry Games. Thanks so much to [info]nimori for checking it over for me. *hugs*
Summary: Snape is cursed during the war, and Harry has to cure him.

"You must be joking," Harry said, looking for some sort of twinkle effect in the paint of the Headmaster's eyes.

Dumbledore sat back in his frame and stroked his beard.

Best. Link. Ever.

That Queen of the Intahwebs, [info]gmth, totally rocks my cotton socks clean off my pink toes. Gina's linked me to the very best, most hilarious "news" article about Australia bar none.

If you are Australian, prepare to fall off your chair laughing.

The rest of you will also find it as funny as all get out if you know any Australians (and if you're reading this, you do!) and you can enjoy laughing at our foibles and our wicked, wicked ways.

I will totally down a slab of tinnies and a couple of bottles of Bundy if it'll help the effort!

That's just fabulous! I laughed like an idiot, and then tried to do it from Toronto to Sydney. No luck! Does anyone know of others that it works with?

Pimping

[info]joanwilder posted a list of why team [info]team_sowartime was the better team in this year's [info]snarry_games. I fixed it for her.

Wartime means focus and purpose being too busy for anything resembling sex; postwar means taking your pack kit off!

Wartime requires fitness; postwar induces the softness of disuse means you have the time to use those muscles in new and interesting ways.

Wartime sharpens the mind; postwar dulls the intellect lets you put all those fantasies into action.

Wartime counts the cost; postwar takes it all for granted celebrates survival.

Wartime makes clear who it is that you love—life is fragile; postwar makes it easy to never say the word—there will always be tomorrow tell them.

Wartime brings out the best and worst; postwar buries in mediocrity helps you find the very best.

Wartime holds fate in its hands; postwar rests on the laurels of others learns to live with fate.

Wartime knows how to kick ass; postwar knows how to sit on stroke, finger and fuck it.

Hope that helps you all to remember how you should vote! ♥

Happy Birthday, Maeglin!

Five Fics Meme

Okay, I've been tagged by [info]gwyddfid in the five fics meme:

Post a list of your top five favourite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Do you know, I rather think this meme is going to reveal that I have a rather strong kink to the insertion of fingers/cocks/objects into arses, preferably Snape's fingers/wand into Harry's arse, but I can be creative. *blushes* Clearly, I'm much shallower than I think I am!

  1. Facing the Worst - SS/SB, SB/RL, SS/SB/RL NC17, Bloodplay, non-con, bestiality, magical bindings - I love this fic for many reasons. It was the second real fic I'd written, it was written for the very first Smutmas after Maeg, Nim and Gina said that I was capable of doing it, and was the first real challenge fic I had and I met the challenge, Maeg was my beta: they're all reasons caught up around these few thousands words for me to love it. I read this and it's a good fic, plotty, smutty, hot in all the right places, dirty where it should be, but it warms my heart for the love of friendship that I see in it

  2. Cherries - Snape/Harry NC17, rimming and foodsmut - a happy little fic that makes me smile

  3. Summer Madness Snape/Harry NC17, rimming, object insertion - happy porn, snarky desperate Snape, what's not to love?

  4. Bindings - Albus/Snape NC17, magical bindings - I really love this fic because it lets me understand why Severus would do anything for Albus, and the very complex nature of love

  5. Hagrid's Magical Creature - SS/RH NC17, Snape in a corset. And stockings. Oh, and a collar. Did I mention that the collar has a bell? *g* - still a favourite, although I can't read it and won't be able to until after Deathly Hallows is released. What I love most about it is the possibility that Snape can believe Hagrid loves him.

I very nearly cheated and added in the fic that I'm writing at the moment. The more I write of it, the more I'm growing to love it. ♥

I'm tagging, let me see who hasn't done this yet:
[info]swtalmnd, [info]nimori, [info]amanuensis1, [info]lizardspots (who gets to nominate art yay!) and [info]wikdsushi

Pimp, pimp, pimpetty pimp: the return of X's art and [info]snarry_meetup

Many Snape/Harry fen who've been around for more than a few years will remember X's art, Disarmed and The Mouse's Lullaby, before she took them down from the net. I'd never forgotten them, and I know many others haven't either. Both pieces were very striking and powerful, and I always regretted that they'd been taken down.

At Escapade, [info]meri_oddities, [info]dementordelta and I had the opportunity to tell X how much we'd enjoyed her work. I was totally shameless (surprising, I know) about how much I'd loved them and how I'd never forgotten them. X was very touched, and told us that she'd put them back up.

I'm so excited to tell you that I've had an email from her, and Disarmed and The Mouse's Lullaby are back up on X's website. You can email feedback to X from the site. I'll also be linking to the art from Walking the Plank so you'll be able to leave feedback there as well within a couple of days.

Please do take what X asks seriously, and don't take the art and manipulate or take her name off it. People being idiots with someone else's work is why it came down last time, and I'd like to think that it wouldn't happen again. Enjoy the art, because it's truly beautiful work.

---

On another note, I've stolen an idea from [info]julian_black and started a community for Snape/Harry fen to arrange meetups and advertise them. For the big cons, there's often a dedicated community, but for general meetings it often depends upon who's on whose flist to get the word out. [info]snarry_meetup is for all Snarry fen to arrange meetups, large and small. I've asked about and it looks like there's no Snarry comm for the Phoenix Rising convention, so this could be the place to organise the Snape/Harry dinners, room parties and meetings that are sure to happen! If you're a Snape/Harry fan who wants to meet others, then why not join up?
